And they said Kansas is flat. Kansas got nothing on eastern SD.

I80 through Nebraska sucks. The rest of the state is not that flat.
Granted, it’s not mountainous, but it’s definitely not flat.

That’s pretty much my only experience of Nebraska though. I’ve done it multiple times too.

At least the speed limits there are higher than in the surrounding states.

NE 81 going north was 60 much of the time. It’s nice to stretch the legs. In these wide open spaces, it doesn’t even feel all that fast.

Yeah, you need to get out of the Platte River valley to see what Nebraska is really like. Shame that there’s no easy way to avoid I80 when crossing the state, the little towns and lower speed limits on the state highways really add to the travel time.

What part of the state are you in? There are definitely some pretty boring parts of the state, but there’s some pretty nice spots too.

When 80 feels slow, you know you are in SD, ND, KS, NE.

It sounds crazy, but I really truly miss that part of the country. I grew up in SW Minnesota and spent a lot of time in eastern SD. I even lived in Salem, SD for a summer.

Not crazy at all. It’s absolutely gorgeous up here.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks so! Enjoy your time there and keep the pics coming. I had plans to make the road trip from Oregon back home to Minnesota this summer, but house buying has derailed those plans. The heartland calls to me, but I’m stuck here for now.

It’s like that all the way to the Canadian border. I grew up just off I29 North of Grand Forks ND. I now live in eastern MN and I miss the gorgeous sunsets.
